Since 2020, the LUX Prize, the European Audience Film Prize,
has been awarded by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy,
in partnership with the European Commission and the Europa Cinémas network.
The EP created the LUX Film Prize in 2007 to contribute to the dissemination of quality
European films which reflect cultural diversity in Europe and beyond,
and which address issues of common interest, such as human dignity, equality,
non-discrimination, inclusion, tolerance, justice and solidarity.
Chair of the European Parliament's Culture and Education Committee,
Sabine Verheyen (EPP, DE), said:
"This year, for the first time, the LUX Audience Award is taking place entirely
in a new format, with a selection of five films.
In 2023, the theme of LUX is love. Our love for European cinema,
our culture and each other. After COVID-19, war and inflation, cinemas need to our support.
So let's show our love for European cinema by watching LUX films and don't forget
to give your opinion afterwards."
After these declarations, here are the films chosen for 2023:
ALCARRÀS ("Our suns"),
BURNING DAYS,
CLOSE, T
RIANGLE OF SADNESS ("Without filter")
WILL-O'-THE-WISP ("Feu sauvaget")
will compete for the 2023 LUX Audience Award, as announced on , during the European Film Prize.
These five films will be subtitled in the 24 official EU languages and screened in
cinemas across the European Union. EP information offices will also organize
free screenings in member states to promote them.
